Bad Theology ~

Below: Nae's new haircut. There is no hairstylist in the village right now so I took it upon myself to do this cut...we were going for a Dora the Explorer look. But she kinda reminds me of Ramona. :)
A mile out of town are some sand dunes. We bring a tub and take sand home with us, then the girls get to have their own sandbox.

The girls listen to the catechism (in song form) before going to bed. One question and answer is, "Who made God? Nobody did. Nobody did." Another song's question and answer is, "Who made me? Who made me? God made you." Well, during quiet time we heard Naomi singing, "Who made me? Nobody did! Nobody did!" Now, how's that for bad theology!

One afternoon Ruthie ran up to me and said, "It would be really fun if the oven made chocolate chip cookies today!"
Mommy: I love you Naomi Cheryl.

Naomi: No! I not Cheryl! I Nae girl!

Our Secret Getaway ~

We found this beautiful lake on the way to the dump. God's country is so beautiful!

We've been to our secret spot a few times. The girls enjoy splashing in the lake with their mud boots on.

The dump is five miles from our village which is where the road ends. We like to drive to the dump just to get out of the village and be by ourselves, but...
...most of the time we see a few vistors that frequent the dump too. :)

Nae's New Do ~

Science Camp ~

Ruthie attended a Science camp last week. She (and I) learned a lot about the different trees in our village. She also made some friends.
Above: The girls and me leaving for Science camp. Naomi was too young so she ended up staying with Brad. I guess one day Nae said to Brad, "I want Ruthie. I want to hug Ruthie." She must have missed her best friend.

Below: Ruthie was a willow tree and a lumberjack had to set her free.

My New Helper ~

It's so fun having Ruthie help me out in the kitchen!

Using Heat in July? ~

A friend gave us some King salmon...the girls helped me get it ready to bake.
Ruthie: I miss home.

Mommy: Where is home?

Ruthie: With Grandma.

Yes, we turned the heat on in the middle of July! A couple mornings it was just too cold (for me at least). Our house is situated among so many trees that the sun doesn't heat our house till 8pm or so.

Below: Ruthie was enjoying a hearty lunch while watching the neighborhood moose and calf pass by.

After we read a book Ruthie said, "This book reminds me of home!"

The water here is expensive so we try to limit our water usage. Therefore, I took only two showers in over a week! That's a record for me I think. Don't worry...I use vanilla body spray so I shouldn't smell too bad for the most part :)

Below: Our Explorer broke down so we were without a vehicle for a couple weeks. We just walked everywhere. One day Brad walked to get the mail and visit an elderly couple, but came back with wildflowers for me! So thoughtful.

Ruthie was having a hard time at quiet time and kept complaining, so I told her to "change her attitude." The next time I came into the room she was in the corner on her knees. When I asked her what she was doing she said, "I'm praying that I will change my attitude."

Below: I found Nae girl like this...she now prefers to sleep under the daybed. I guess it's like camping out.

God's Provision ~

A friend downriver is leaving his village and sold his skiff boat to Martin for a fair price of $1! So Martin and Silke were kind enough to take us out on their new boat to look for firewood.
We've been watching the movie series "The Torchlighters," with the girls. One of the girl's favorites is Perpetua. After they watch it they usually start pretending they are Perpetua and Felicity. Ruthie likes to be Perpetua and by default Nae gets to be Felicity (they both like to be Perpetua). I am elected to play the proconsul and have to be the one to force them into the arena. When I ask them if they will deny Christ they both scream, "No!" I like that part. It's been good for the girls to understand that Christ is worthy enough to die for.
Naomi calls moose "moo-cows."
The girls also have been playing Gladys Aylward. They line up their dolls and stuffed animals and tell their "kids" that they will get there soon and not to despair...God will provide!
The Yukon River.
We saw lots of moose tracks.
Below: God's provision, driftwood.
Lately Ruthie's been asking us about Heaven and Hell. She once asked how a soul gets to Heaven if the person dies inside a house...she asked, "Will they make a hole in the ceiling to get there?"
Below: A baby moo-cow track and mama moo-cow track. :)
I attempted to teach the girls how to crochet.
