Process of Grocery Shopping ~

Grocery shopping looks a lot different when living in the bush. We spent days going to different stores looking for dried goods, canned goods, etc. We also spent time shopping for furniture since, Lord willing, we'll have our own home by July 1.
First, we buy dried goods and the day before we leave we'll purchase frozen foods and chocolate (one can't forget chocolate, a staple item...both my Mom and Cheryl can testify firsthand the necessity of me having chocolate chips, a weekly baking enjoyment of mine).

The girls did a great job shopping all day long for a whole week.
After buying the goods we packed a vehicle full and barged it to our village.
We also rented a Uhaul for the bigger items. We took a whole day shopping and packing the Uhaul, then driving it an hour away to the barge.

Once arriving at the barge we loaded our items into a crate, closed the doors and continue to pray everything gets to our village intact.

How does one entertain a two and three year old? Dirt. The girls played for nearly two hours in the dirt while Brad and another guy loaded our crate and organized barge details.

A bath was definitely in order at the end of the day.

After we did all our shopping in Fairbanks (the hub to our village) we traveled back to Anchorage for the rest of our orientation. This next week we'll travel to Homer for a conference...then finally on June 7 we'll fly by bush plane to our village.

Since arriving in Anchorage a couple weeks ago we'll have traveled an additional 1200 miles!
