Makoshika State Park ~

We went hiking in Makoshika State Park the other day. We were impressed that Ruthie made it the whole way.
The Badlands.
Everyone getting ready to leave. Important sidenote: It appears Nae is picking her nose but with closer observation you'll notice she is pushing her shades up higher as to see better (I had to put that sidenote in because I really thought she was picking her nose in this picture at first glance.) :)
When we read the book "God Made Puppies" to Naomi, she'll hug the book while we read it to her (she loves animals).
When we read books to Ruthie she'll have us stop at a page and "watch what happens." This is where we stare at the page for a matter of minutes waiting for "something to happen," which rarely does. ;)
We went through the drive-through bank and as we pulled up to the teller Ruthie yelled from her carseat, "May I have some money please?" She got a sucker for her cuteness.
Ruthie's really into gum. She's not allowed to have any until she's five (honestly I don't know the okay age to chew gum so I just tell her five because it's fun age to aim for). When I told her we're going to visit a family with three boys, she asked if any of them were old enough to chew gum (apparently this determines their age and maturity in her sight).
Nae and Ruthie were watching a horse movie one day. This is the usual setting: Nae will giggle with glee when the horse appears on the set, but once the camera moves to something else Nae will cry uncontrollably...then the horse comes back, glee. Then the horse leaves, tears. Etc.
During this trip to Makoshika I took Ruthie into a public restroom. Somehow she got locked in the stall. I had two choices: Try to walk through with Ruthie how to open the door OR crawl underneath the stall door to rescue her. For those of you who know my routine with public facilites (ie never touching door handles, faucets, paper dispensers, etc) will understand my retraint from crawling on the ground. Hence, I talked Ruthie into opening the stall from inside. All is well again. :)
On an even grosser note: This morning we realized Nae knows how to take her diaper off. We found her covered in dirty diaper, as well as her pack n' play, mattress, toy, pajamas, etc. I'm wondering if we should duct taper her diaper on tonight...

Nae did a good job on the hike but ended up being carried by Brad most of the way. Below is a picture of her fighting to get lose of my grip so she can run around (but take note of the sharp precipice below).
Still trying to run after Nae and hold the camera bag.
Uncle Jeff and Naomi chilling at the park.
After we came back from Makoshika Brad had enough energy to mow the lawn.
This activity is credited to Amy. She had her daughter transition oatmeal from one container to the next. Ruthie really enjoyed this activity, BUT I caught her eating her dried oats rather than working one time!
