A Near Death Moose Experience ~

Are you waiting with bated breath to hear the story? Here it goes: Brad was getting wood a few miles from town and while driving on the road he ran across a moose and its calf. Usually this wouldn't be a big deal but the village's dump truck was coming toward Brad, thus leaving the moose between Brad and the truck. Our snow-go isn't able to make a U-turn on such a small road, so Brad had no way of escape. Since the moose would rather deal with Brad than the huge dump truck it ran directly toward Brad with its ear's back. Brad said it got about 15 yards away before it veered of the road and among the trees. I asked Brad if he was scared for his life, but he said all he could think about was how much damage the moose could do to our snow-go....such a manly response! Worried more about the vehicle than himself. I'm so thankful God protects my Handsome especially with so many dangerous "predators" lurking the streets here. :)
A friend commented that even with the groundhog "announcing" it's still six more weeks of winter, in our village it's still 14 weeks until break-up...and that's what really matters here! (FYI: Break-up refers to the ice melting and breaking up on the Yukon).
A recent statement from the city: "The {our village} water system recently violated a drinking water standard, and even though this was not an emergency, you, the customer, have the right to know. You do not need to boil your water at this time or take other corrective actions. People with severely compromised immune systems, people with infants, and some elderly may be at risk. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers."
We are very thankful for the warm weather here. It's been above zero for a few days now. On Saturday it was -45 and by the afternoon it warmed up to 5 above!
Not only has it been warming but the sun's been peaking through the trees upon our house too. At dinner the other night Ruthie asked, "Is this lunch?" She thought it was lunchtime since it was still light outside....it's usually pitch dark outside during dinnertime.
This afternoon the sun was peaking through the trees and some sunlight came into the girl's room. Some light was reflecting on the wall (keep in mind that this hasn't happened for months now) and Ruthie asked, "What's that shiny thing?" It's called the sun, my dear! :)
Thank you for praying for our car...it's fixed now and I finally was able to take a trip to the post office for my daily, exciting outing!
Permission request: All credit goes to my friends for their creative blog header...I totally copied them! But I did get permission from my gracious friends beforehand. :)
Brad is still meeting with the young man who is interested in the Gospel and Christianity. They spend a couple hours each week walking around the village and simply talking about Christ. Please continue to pray that God will save him. Brad continues to put the Gospel before our friend, but we are reminded that God is the One Who will have to do the work in his heart unto salvation.
Check out that amazing sun! I love that star!
Our toyo stove wasn't working all last week but it's finally working again this week, which is a praise.
During our recent trip to the post office we heard the girls chatting about where "Grandma and Grandma" would sit when they come to visit. This won't occur for another six months or so, but it's nice to know that the seating arrangements are being made in such advanced notice. Much thought has been placed on these seating arrangements so please be flexible Grandmas...I think both girls decided it is best for them to BOTH sit on your lap wherever we go...I'm sure you'll find that to your liking though. :)
We finally took our first family walk tonight in over a month. The last month has been too cold to do that with the girls.
Can you see that crockpot in my hands? Yes, nothing will stop me from bringing a warm dish to potluck on Sunday! Since our car wasn't working we've been taking the snow-go to church and this entails a lot of preparation (snow-go gear, covering the crockpot from flying snow, protect the Bibles and notepads from getting wet, etc).
I gear up....then I grab the crockpot! Now we're ready for Sunday worship!
My friend Roberta sent us a care package in the mail and even as I blog I'm enjoying the thoughtful gift of chai tea she mailed. She knows me well! :)
Brad is sleeping right now. Tonight he is working the night shift at the jail here. Sometimes the state troopers will arrest someone in another village, fly them here to stay overnight in the jail, and then fly them to Fairbanks to stand trial. The state trooper called us today and asked if Brad was willing to sit with the prisoner from 12am-8am. We're not sure if Brad's allowed to talk to the man, but ulitimately he would like to share the Gospel with him. He's bringing sermons on DVD so if Brad can't talk to the man maybe he can hear the Gospel through a Piper sermon!
Both sets of parents would be appalled to see this mess on my floor! Can you believe that after we get home this is the scene that follows? It is cleaned up in about 5.6 seconds but I thought I'd take a picture of the immediate damage upon returning home so our parents will be proud of how laid-back I've become. :)
We took a snow-go ride and came home covered in snow...it actually was worse but we had to get out once (which knocked off all the snow) because Brad couldn't get over a huge bump with the sled attached.

Brad has spent much of this week snow-going out of town to get us firewood.
Our village has had about 4-5 feet of snow already.
Thumbs up Grandma Cheryl and Grandpa Wally. Thanks for the teapot dress for my birthday! I ask to wear it a lot and get nice compliments from my friends. They ask me if my Mommy made it...I have been instructed to just nod my head and smile in hopes that it will appear that my Mommy is good at sewing. :)
