BradMad Alaska Trip ~

We left for Alaska two weeks ago.
We traveled into Anchorage and then visited a few villages up north.

Anchorage, known as the "largest village" in Alaska.

Bill and Alida are a neat couple we spent a lot of time with.

This picture is of an avalanche that happened the week before we got there.

A glacier we could see from the road.
My uncle, aunt and cousin.
We traveled by bush plane between villages.

Mount McKinley from the plane.
The first village we visited and stayed overnight. Population: about 300

The man we stayed with has a sled dog team. I had a good time petting all the dogs!

The way to get around a village in the winter is by snowmobile.

My first taste of muktuk. Conclusion: Doesn't compare to double-stuffed Oreos.
This picture is fun because our pilot and friend liked my backpack (a Broncos duffel bag). Here they are admiring it. :)
The second village we visited. We stayed here longer than the other three villages.
Population: about 300

Exciting to see a church there!

It was 40 below two of the days we were there. I had to borrow a parka because I wasn't correctly prepared. Interesting quote I heard: "In Alaska, if you lock yourself out of your house with nowhere to go, you die."
The nice warm parka I borrowed...the hood was covered in wolf fur which kept me warm.

After our visit to the villages we came back to Glennallen and Anchorage for a conference. We had one free day so Brad and I traveled to Valdez to spend a day together.

We saw a moutain goat along the way.
It was neat to see moose walking around Anchorage. This picture was taken outside our motel.

The day after the conference and before we left, we had time to see the Iditarod.

Bill was a fun guy to be around.

We couldn't wait to get home to see the girls. They (aka Grandma and the girls) made us this lovely sign to welcome us back.
